Do you have a question about....
(1) Criminal Record Checks
(2) Whether you can teach in Korea if you're not from one of the countries listed here
These are the two most common questions I get asked via this form, so I might as well answer them here. Read below the form for more...
Regarding Criminal Record Checks...
If you have committed a felony or small misdemeanour in the past, WHICH WILL SHOW ON YOUR FBI/CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK, the chances of obtaining a teaching position and/or teaching visa in Korea, is very low.
I'm very sorry about this and it's unfortunate that nothing can be done about it, but it's simply the guidelines and rules that Korean Immigration has made and is sticking to. They receive dozens of application daily and my best guess is that they simply will not accept a individual with past felony or misdemeanour.
If you have a special case that you think might serve as exception, I suggest you contact Korean immigration directly and explain your situation. They will hopefully be able to give you a good second opinion.
Regarding foreign Nationals and Visa's in Korea...
ONLY Individuals with a passport from the USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa can qualify for T-2 Teaching Visa's in Korea. If you're from any other country (it doesn't matter if you have years of teaching experience and/or degrees to back it up) you WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE to qualify for a visa.
Again, this is simply the guidelines that Korean Immigration has set for the program and are unlikely to change. I suggest you look into other possibilities for teaching English in other Asian countries.
