Jeju Korea
Jeju Island is a favourite tourist spot for many Asians and foreigners. It's a must see if you're ever in the vicinity.
The jewel of Korea, Jeju Island is any Korean's obligatory vacation spot. A few kilometres from the south coast of the country, Jeju is a short flight from any major sight and a stunning vacation spot. "Island of the gods" as it is locally known remains a top honeymoon destination for Korean newlyweds, Japanese tourists and surf-crazy foreigners.
The island's mixture of volcanic rock, frequent rains, and temperate climate, make it very similar to the Hawaiian Islands in the U.S. during the summer months. The island has a range of things to do, see and keep you busy with. From hiking on Halla-san (South Korea's highest peak) and catching sunrises and sunsets over the ocean to viewing majestic waterfalls and riding horses.
Climate
Beach season runs from May to October. Like the rest of the country, Jeju features hot summers with maximum temperatures in the low thirties, but high humidity. Autumn and spring is warm and dry. During winter, Jeju is somewhat warmer that the peninsula itself and temperatures rarely drop below zero.
The best time to visit is during autumn or spring months.
Getting there
The major airport on the islands biggest city, Jeju City, serves 23 airlines including Jeju air (Korea's budget airline). Flights from all the major cities are available and regular. Most Korean airline websites (including Jeju Air's) doesn't have an English option, so ask a Korean buddy to help you book the tickets. The vast majority of flights to and from Jeju originate from Gimpo Airport (Seoul's domestic airport) or Busan.
If you're tired of airplanes, try the ferry. Ferry services from the mainland provide good value for money and there are daily services from a number of ports:
Busan Mon-Sat, 11 hours overnight, 7pm departure both to and from Jeju port. Third class (sleeping on the floor) W39,000, second class bed in a small shared room W53,000, and first class also available.
Mokpo (5.5 hours, from W19,950)
Incheon (13 hours).
Wando 3 hours
Money
Most ATMs on Jeju do not accept foreign ATM or Credit cards for cash withdrawals, but the airport has a few international ATM's so make sure to get sufficient cash there. If you have a Korean bank account, then you will of course have no problem.
Accommodation
Guesthouses abound on Jeju, and due to its reputation as a honeymoon getaway there is a wide variety of accommodation. Outside of the peak tourist seasons, like the Korean national holidays accommodation is easy to come by and not overtly expensive.
See map of Korea for the exact location of the island.

Since many attractions are geared towards tourists, some admission fees can be hefty (compared to the rest of the country).
